Spencer and dad had a good Father's Day in San Francisco, as evidenced by his big smiles while exploring the botanical garden. And Uncle Matt babysat for us and gave us a date night, which also looked like a blast based on the photo documentation of a messy dinner and fun time at the park. Happy June!

Now we're talking
So, I haven't been taking quite as many pictures lately (that post-first-birthday slump is real). But I wanted to quickly write down what Spencer has been up to so that I can remember all this later on. The main update is his vocabulary: he can say "ball," "shoes," "hi dad", "mama," "whoa" (when he goes fast on the swing at the park), and he (sometimes) signs "light," "fan," and "more" as well as waves hello to every person on the street. That list doesn't look very big when I write it out, so I guess it is how much more he understands when we talk to him that is actually the biggest change. Basically, I am giving commands to see what he will do on his own, like go find your toys without me having to get up off the couch:) There has also been a crazy increase in full-on tantrums, starting as early as 6:30 am and not quiet at all. (Sorry to the tenant beneath us!) Think he really wants to be an older kid these days and is very frustrated that he isn't. He still hasn't hit 21 lbs yet at his 15-month visit (3rd percentile in height, 20th in weight, and 65th in head circumference).
Okay, here are two pictures so this post isn't all text: 1) matching dad-son whale hoodies, and 2) sitting and doing some light magazine reading/shredding in his new favorite (but overpriced) Pottery Barn kids chair.
